About Spartacus
Spartacus ran on Starz from 2010 to 2013, tracing the gladiator revolt from the ludus to open war with Rome. A prequel miniseries, Gods of the Arena, aired between the first two seasons, and House of Ashur premiered in 2025 as an alternate timeline sequel where Ashur survives.
Release order is the recommended path: Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena, Vengeance, War of the Damned, then House of Ashur. The prequel was designed as a breather after season one, and its reveals assume you know the main cast. House of Ashur branches off and can be treated as an epilogue.
Good to know
Starz aired the saga in story order once, with Gods of the Arena first, but that blunts the prequel's tragedies, which were written for viewers who know how Capua ends. House of Ashur was cancelled after one season in 2026, so it closes as a single alternate history chapter rather than a new ongoing continuity. Andy Whitfield's season one remains his complete run.
